Founder: Ivar Bengtsson
- Since wooden toys are so durable, they are almost always passed down from generation to generation.
In 1902, basketmaker Ivar Bengtsson founded a company and shifted his attention from baskets to the production of wooden toys. The company released its first toy, a wooden horse, 1907.
In 1908, Ivar handed over the business and the workshop to his three sons, who founded the Brio company. Brio's development workshop is still located in the same city where everything began.
Up until the 1950s, the Brio range was very extensive and included textiles and ceramics. Their baby carriages, first manufactured in 1930, were particularly popular at the time. In the 1950s, Brio's popularity increased thanks to the introduction of its iconic wooden trainset in 1958, which has remained popular ever since.
Brio is unique for its high-quality materials and 100-year family tradition of high-quality toy manufacturing. Everything Brio toy is produced under the strictest controls, using a combination of the latest technologies and traditional Swedish techniques.
