Unfortunately, Freemont is trusted only by the dastardly archaeologist Sinclair, a member of the Society who wants to summon and control an invincible evil with the help of this tablet.

His guest of honour is Gerry Farrell, a brilliant chemist who has discovered a remarkable new formula for the production of synthetic rubber. Farrell is depressed by the fate of his colleague who died during their research and does not want to talk too much about professional matters, but the other businessmen present are determined to talk about money - millions of dollars. One teases the other with secret offers and counter-offers, which only breeds an atmosphere of mistrust.
