Hong Kong 1962. Two married couples move into adjoining flats: Chow Mo-wan and his wife and Chan Li-zhen and her husband. He is the editor of the local newspaper, she is a secretary, and since their partners spend most of their time travelling away from home, they are often alone during the midday and evening. A fleeting encounter on a narrow staircase, a few kind words exchanged in the common hallway, unwanted glimpses of privacy, a fraction of a sentence, sigh, a snippet of a popular radio hit heard through a thin wall.
