Several milestones in the history of NEC
The Nippon Electric Company, or NEC for short, was established in 1899 and was involved in the production and sale of telephones. In 1924, NEC branched out into radio communications; in fact the first Japanese radio station was founded in 1925 using NEC equipment. In 1950, NEC started to develop transistors, and in 1954 started manufacturing its first computers. In 1974 the highly popular ACOS series computer was launched.
In 1982, NEC released the 16-bit PC-9800 series, four years later they developed the SX-2 super computer, and in 1997 they developed 4-Gbit DRAM. 2005 saw the introduction of ultrathin flexible rechargeable batteries.
