The book is based on scientific research and is a translation of several editions of an American book originally published in the 1980s, which draws on decades of research up to that point. It is a handbook that is widely recommended by doctors in the US, and I have also come across quotations from it in Czech handbooks on depression. Don’t be misled by a publishing house that specialises in esoteric literature. This book is by no means a pseudoscientific work, nor does it promise that you are guaranteed to be cured of depression without medication (as claimed by the sensationalist cover, which is not the original). Her promise is different: how to work with your mind – how to develop practical skills and ways of thinking that will help you, without relying on medication. (Of course, the book devotes more than just one chapter to the issue of the effectiveness of medication and its combination with psychotherapy.) ) It is all based on leading research in the field of psychotherapy and the author’s own clinical experience.
