I was looking for an inexpensive laser tape measure to measure a few apartments. With no previous experience, I chose this one. So I don't have a comparison, but this one works great.
You attach it to one wall, check the laser sight on the other wall, press the button, the device beeps and displays the measured distance. That's it. It remembers the last 20 readings. It can handle basic arithmetic operations.
When measuring, remember to set the reference point if you have changed it (bottom or top of the box), otherwise your measurement will differ by the height of the box.
The only downside: sometimes I press the button for continuous measurement, which is a bit awkwardly placed. However, the sound will alert you to the error.
