so far it looks like this book can be skipped, nothing really happened there at all.
I just skimmed the second half, the weakest of the whole series so far

This is a book from a multi-volume series, which is important to know – and to have the previous volumes (the series is called *Legion*). This fantasy is a real page-turner, written in a humorous style that is probably not to the taste (or ear) of high-society matrons, but that only makes the story all the more ‘believable’. I haven’t come across any absurd physical nonsense, although, of course, the ‘technologies’ described go beyond our current understanding (much like today’s mobile phone, which is actually a powerful microcomputer, if its use had been introduced a hundred years ago). I found the book fascinating, and anyone who’s already started reading the series definitely won’t want to miss it. Come to think of it, as an older gentleman, when I picture a girl like Mirka… hm. The book is certainly not prudish – quite the opposite, in fact – but I’d happily take things even further in this direction: D
