USB 3.2
but the short cable can be easily extended without loss of signal quality with an extension cable. I myself have tested the Vention brand, it doesn't happen that the device disconnects on the fly or does other mischief. So really, the cable matters a lot.

Bought to rescue data from a damaged mechanical drive, succeeded on the first try.
Without any installation
Power supply included, so it can handle mechanical drives
The length of the cables as someone here complains is quite sufficient for working with a PC on a desk, or using a USB prolongs.
Perfect not only for reading old discs, but in my case for saving data right the first time.
Small, compact, intuitive
Fixed USB cable, better would be a solution with a socket and the possibility to change the cable in case of damage.
