LP Record Product information: The band's name is derived from the acronym Fugazi, which is American slang from the Vietnam War era. Fugazi was short for "Fucked Up, Got Ambushed, Zipped In," referring to a hopeless combat situation. Fugazi emerged from the Washington D.C. punk and hardcore scene of the 1980s. They release their music on the Dischord record label, founded by Fugazi member Ian MacKaye, who previously gained fame with various D.C. punk bands (e.g., Minor Threat). The band uses the freedom of action that a non-commercial label provides to maintain certain principles, such as low-priced concerts, all-ages shows, and no large-scale events.
