The idea for the collaboration came after a Transatlantic concert at the "Progressive Nation At Sea" festival in 2014, where Anderson also performed. Preparations for the album began shortly after. The composing, songwriting and recording of "Invention Of Knowledge" took about a year and a half. During this time, the musicians sent ideas and demos to each other over the internet. In March 2015, Stolt finally put together the line-up for the final recording.
