LP Record The Head on the Door is the sixth studio album by the English rock band The Cure, released on 8 September 1985 by the Polydor label. The album was recorded between January and May 1985 at RAK Studios in London and is the band's first album with new drummer Boris Williams. The Head on the Door is a transitional album for the band, featuring elements of both gothic rock and the group's pop style. The album has been described as "a collection of disparate songs that come together to form a cohesive whole". Several songs on the album were written by singer and guitarist Robert Smith and bassist Simon Gallup, with other songs written by keyboardist Lol Tolhurst and drummer Boris Williams. The album was produced by Dave Allen and The Cure. The album cover was designed by Smith.
