This remote and inaccessible region of eastern Nepal is bordered by Everest to the west and Kanchenjunga to the east. The filmed material is divided into two parts. The first one describes the harrowing journey from Tumlingtar via Shipton La to the Barun River valley to the base camp below Makalu, to the Barun Glacier and to the summit of Peak 3 /5795m/. The second maps the descending path along the mythical Arun River back to the airport. The film informs not only about the natural beauty and the history of the conquest of the mountain, but also about the way of life and customs of the local inhabitants.
