It’s rather difficult to compare it with Savotta and other established brands; the materials, quality and functionality speak for themselves. Naturally, they are considerably more expensive, but that’s not the point at all, because the indestructible Savotta will last for 30 years whilst remaining in exactly the same condition. My first impression was that it might have been made from fibres from recycled PET bottles, and I’d actually not yet worked out how to carry the bag comfortably. On the left-hand side (crossed over, i.e. across the neck to the right shoulder) is a switchable lead (the dog walks on the left-hand side), a rifle sling over the right shoulder, and binoculars around the neck – they’ll fit in the bag, mind you, but there’s no question of getting them out quickly. The only positive feature is the wide strap, but the fastening and securing mechanism is so poorly designed (when the support strap is fastened, the main buckle twists at a ridiculous angle and presses into the body) that I’m fumbling about even without my rifle and binoculars. Even through my T-shirt and waistcoat, I can feel the stiff fabric rubbing against them, and I don’t actually find it at all comfortable to wear for several hours a day in the woods. Never mind the fact that the spruce branches had got caught in the first patch of undergrowth, and it had snagged on a larger buckle – and I’d only been wearing it for just under half an hour (which was more than enough). I’m not in the habit of returning things; it was simply a mistake on my part, and I’m sure I’ll find a use for it amongst my extended family. Off to the city for a bit to get that military vibe. It’s certainly not a functional and practical item for everyday use.
