Printer Consumables

In order to function, every printer needs ink cartridges and paper on which to print. In addition to these regular consumables, some printers require replacement parts from time to time, depending on the type and manufacturer of the printer.

Colour cartridges

  • Toner - a closed cassette containing a black and white or coloured powder; used by laser and LED printers.
  • Ink cartridge - a cassette with black and white or colour ink; used by inkjet printers.
  • Ribbon - the source of colours used by dot matrix and thermal printers.

Cartridge yield

Provides rough information about the quantity of prints or copies. For a more accurate estimation, ISO standards were created for toner and ink cartridges.

  • Monochrome toners - print a test page at approximately 5% coverage.

  • Color ink cartridges and toners - prints a set of 5 test pages, all of which are covered with aprrox. 5% of each colour (with a total coverage of 20%).

Paper

  • Glossy and matte - specifically adapted papers for printing photos and other images in high quality.
  • Office - classic paper for printing documents with both laser and inkjet printers.
  • Thermo - specially treated paper; used particularly with POS and thermal printers.
  • Special - special paper for printing labels and stickers; paper rolls for plotters and other non-standard paper.

Other accessories

  • Binding spines and covers - tools for binding individual papers into one book using a manual or electronic binder.
  • Laminating films - protects documents and photos from moisture, dirt and creasing; applied using a laminating machine.
  • Printer drums - used in laser printers; they last approximately 3-4 times longer than the toner, after which they should be replaced.
  • Printer filament - for 3D printers; should be chosen according to the diameter and material that the printer supports.
  • Refill kits - allow you to refill ink cartridges by hand, thereby reducing costs.
