Udává, jak velké množství tepla potřebuje chladicí systém počítače odvést od procesoru, aby jej ochránil před příliš vysokými teplotami, které nebude schopen unést. Hodnota navrženého tepelného výkonu je výrobcem specifikovaná pro každou součástku (procesory, ale i grafické karty, apod.). Vyšší TDP mají zpravidla výkonnější procesory.
