Mini projectors are particularly notable for their compact size and light weight.
Their versatility is also an advantage. Mini projectors can handle presentations, photos and movie nights.
Controlling the mini projector with remote control, buttons, or smartphones is very easy and intuitive.
Some portable projectors have a built-in battery, a WiFi receiver and a card reader.

What to Look for When Choosing Mini Projectors?

If you're choosing a new mini projector, you should look at its resolution and other vital parameters such as the throw ratio and luminosity.

What Resolution is Best for Mini Projectors?

A WXGA or HD Ready portable mini projector is enough for text presentations in a small office, but if you're looking for a projector for movies, go for a Full HD or 4K option. In addition, find out about the difference between native and higher display resolution.

Projection Distance and Image Diagonal of Mini Projectors

The projection distance indicates how far a portable projector should be positioned from the projection screen. If you do not place the projector within its optimal projection distance, it will not provide a sharp enough image.

All portable projectors have a minimum and maximum projection distance.

The Luminosity of Mini Projectors

Mini projectors have luminance ratings in their descriptions. This critical parameter indicates the intensity (how much light) the portable projector produces in a given direction. In general, higher luminance projectors offer good readability even in non-darkened areas or in daylight. The darker the room, the less bright the projector needs to be.

Luminous intensity of up to 2 000 lumens (lm) is suitable for darkened rooms with minimal lighting.
2 000 to 3 000 lumens are best used in dimly lit areas.
Luminous intensity of over 3 000 lumens will provide highly visible projection even in daylight.

A mini or portable projector usually offers lower luminosity than a conventional (large) projector.

Mini Projectors: LED, Laser, or Lamp?

When it comes to the light source, you have several options. LED mini projectors are small, economical and quiet, while laser projectors excel at displaying colour. Halogen lamps are not typical for mini projectors.

Connecting Mini Projectors to a PC or a Laptop

We recommend choosing mini projectors with sufficient native resolution (WXGA, preferably Full HD) and luminance for projection from computers or laptops. When it comes to connectivity, HDMI and USB are the basics. However, WiFi or Bluetooth is also suitable.

Mini Projectors for Mobile Phones

Mini projectors for mobile phones use a connection via MHL (Mobile High-Definition Link) via HDMI to micro USB reduction. You'll also benefit from portable mini projectors with WiFi, Bluetooth, and Miracast to wirelessly play images, presentations, or videos from your mobile.
