How is it with the Microsoft license?

What is OEM and when can you buy it so that the software will be legal? And when and why buy the boxed version?

CHANGES IN MICROSOFT OEM LICENCES

Changes in OEM products packs and with it changes in System Builder Agreement (document by which all who install OEM SW must abide) took place in August.

MAIN CHANGES

  • OEM licence must be distributed only with a fully assembled computer system and must be preinstalled
  • Unopened packs can be redistributed to other OEM System Builders without requiring a non-peripheral component purchase.
  • OEM system builder software packs are intended for PC and server manufacturers or assemblers ONLY. They are not intended for distribution to end users. Unless the end user is actually assembling his/her own PC, in which case, that end user is considered a system builder as well.

POSSIBILITY OF LEGALIZATION/UPGRADE

To preserve the possiblity of legalizing operating system a sollution was made for Czech market (Czech and Slovak versions). The sollution is a stamp glued on the OEM packs. This stamp will enable the end user to purchase Windows XP if he meets all conditions of the Microsoft OEM System Builder Agreement.

These regulations apply ONLY to OEM licences of Windows XP in Czech or Slovakian language versions. (Product and technical support is provided to the end users by the distributor)
