What makes Nintendo Switch different from other consoles?

The Nintendo Switch is one of the so-called handheld consoles—a portable gaming device. However, Nintendo was the first to come up with the unique concept of creating a gaming console that can work as both a handheld and a classic console. So the Nintendo Switch can also be connected to a TV and with the help of detachable controllers, you can enjoy gaming from the comfort of your couch.

  • You can take Nintendo Switch on the go and connect it to a TV or monitor just like you would at home.
  • The detachable Joy-Con controllers can be used to play from the comfort of your couch or to compete with friends.
  • Motion sensors open up new possibilities to draw you into the game with movement and gestures.
  • The basic Nintendo Switch variant, the lightweight Lite model and the enhanced OLED all support the same games.

Nintendo Switch Hardware

The name Nintendo Switch today refers to three different consoles. You can tell them apart at first sight. The lightweight Nintendo Lite doesn't offer detachable Joy-Con connectors, while the OLED model boasts a better display. However, the consoles also differ in parameters.

What game modes does Nintendo Switch offer?

The Nintendo Switch gets its name primarily because of its unique ability to seamlessly switch between game modes. And we can tell you, there are quite a few of them! Let's talk about the game modes now.

  • Gaming at home on a big TV with the docking station connected via HDMI to your TV or monitor.
  • Handheld mode lets you play your Nintendo Switch undocked for 4.5-6 hours depending on the graphical demands of the game.
  • Local multiplayer is great for parties. But make sure you have enough Joy-Con controllers.
  • Local multi-console multiplayer lets you connect up to 8 Nintendo Switch consoles together over WiFi.
  • Online multiplayer requires Nintendo Switch Online service, which includes a bunch of perks, among other things.

Nintendo Switch and its Joy-Con controllers

The Nintendo Switch dedicated game controllers fit perfectly in your hand when in handheld and classic mode. They are equipped with infrared sensors for distance detection, NFC reader for use with Amiibo figures, gyroscope and vibration motor. They can be used horizontally or vertically, depending on the game.
