How to live and avoid burnout syndrome

The 3rd edition of this popular book. How to escape the vicious cycle of exhaustion?

Burnout syndrome is a state of complete physical and mental exhaustion with potentially serious health consequences. This book was written by the renowned psychiatrist MUDr. Radkin Honzák for people who are under intense pressure from stressors and could easily become candidates for burnout.

Burnout syndrome is a state of complete physical and mental exhaustion with potentially serious health consequences. Anyone who has burned out must have been on fire before. They must have been passionate about their work – usually a humanitarian activity. But if we light a candle at both ends, we get twice as much light, but it burns out in half the time.

“If you find yourself in a situation where the flames of your enthusiasm are about to consume you, a change is necessary. And the only thing you can change is yourself. That’s a pain! And it’s hard! But it’s the only truly effective solution, and it’s worth it – at any age!” says MUDr. Radim Honzák.

Rather than offering advice like “do this – don’t do that,” Dr Honzák focuses on how to go through life more joyfully and avoid the traps that – surprisingly – we most fervently, frequently, intensely, and effectively set for ourselves. Indeed, no one makes a bigger mistake than the person who does nothing in the belief that the little they can do is pointless, thus completely closing off the possibility of learning and changing something about themselves.

This lively and popularly written book describes what burnout syndrome is and how it develops. It also provides tables to help you “score” your specific situation, but most importantly, it helps you find a way out of this mess.

What they wrote about the book:

"The book on burnout is a word in season, and prevention is more than appropriate because most people only notice they're in trouble when they're really in it and it's too late to cry over spilt milk. I like the way Mr Honzák writes; his words exude a healthy sense of humour, a broad perspective on life, and a great deal of experience. "

Radkin Honzák also aptly comments on current issues on his blog at www.aktualne.cz. He summarises his lifelong knowledge in the sentence: “A person can endure more than an animal, just give them the opportunity.”
