The quiet town of Flint City is shaken by the brutal murder of an 11-year-old boy. Eyewitnesses, fingerprints and DNA tests all point in one direction - to popular teacher, baseball coach and model father Terry Maitland. Local detective Ralph Anderson has busted a lot of bad guys, but this one is especially gruesome because the guy who raped and cut Frankie Peterson also trained his son. He could have closed the case quickly - if the defendant hadn't had a bulletproof alibi. CCTV footage captured him in a city hundreds of miles away at the time of the crime. How can one man be in two places at the same time? Anderson turns to private eye Holly Gibney, who can see patterns and connections where logic fails. She alerts him to a similar mysterious case of the murder of two girls. The investigation turns into a chilling horror in which forensic science clashes with an ancient evil. Anderson and Gibney must stop the monster before another child dies.
Stephen King was inspired by the legend of a monster called El Cuco, who kidnaps disobedient children. HBO's series adaptation of the novel Max (2020) was warmly received by audiences and critics alike.

The Outsider gives King fans exactly what they want, while bringing new ideas to the table.
