The Philips 55PUS8100 TV uses a 55" LED panel with 4K Ultra HD resolution and the Google TV operating system. This system unifies content from your favourite apps on one clear screen. A key technology is the three-sided Ambilight, whichdynamically adjusts the coloured lightingof the wall behind the TV, thereby optically enlarging the picture and enhancing the feeling of immersion when watching films, TV series, and even playing games. The display supports the dynamic HDR10+ format and the Dolby Atmos and DTS:X sound formats.
Picture and Display Technology
The picture is based on an LED panel with a 139cm screen size and a native 4K Ultra HD (3840×2160) resolution. The screen operates with a 50/60Hz refresh rate and uses Direct LED backlighting. The panel, with an 8-bit colour depth, achieves a brightness of 250 nits, while a light sensor automatically adjusts the picture according to the lighting conditions in the room. The back of the TV features intelligent LEDs on three edges that project colours onto the wall behind the TV in real time. The technology reacts to the action on the screen and creates a glow that seamlessly blends with the picture. The Ambilight function also offers a special game mode or Lounge mode, which creates an ambient atmosphere in the room, even when the screen is off. The system can also adapt to the colour of your wall. The Pixel Precise Ultra HD picture processor optimises sharpness, colours, and motion smoothness. The TV processes high dynamic range content in HDR10 and HLG formats, and also adjusts contrast and brightness using the dynamic HDR10+ format for each scene individually. The Micro Dimming feature analyses the picture in individual zones and adjusts the contrast for deeper blacks and brighter light tones.
Sound Features
Sound is provided by two speakers with a total output of 20W. The TV supports audio formats that give content a spatial dimension. Thanks to this, it processes the decoding of Dolby Atmos and DTS:X formats, which surround the listener with sound not just from the sides, but also from above. The clarity of spoken word is enhanced by the Clear Dialogue function, while Night mode limits dynamic sound peaks. Furthermore, automatic volume levelling balances differences between various signal sources.
Smart Features and Interface
The Google TV operating system unifies content from various streaming services on a single home screen. This gives you access to thousands of apps from the Google Play store, including global services like Netflix, YouTube, HBO Max, Disney+, or Apple TV. The system also supports Czech apps, such as Prima+ or LepšíTV, and simultaneously recommends films and series based on your preferences and viewing history. The remote control has a microphone for voice control using Google Assistant, which you can use to search for content, launch apps, or control smart home elements. The TV also works with Amazon Alexa devices, which expands the possibilities for integration into an existing ecosystem. Apple Home support adds another layer of connectivity for users of Apple devices.
Gaming Features
Gamers have a basic set of gaming features at their disposal. Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) activates upon connecting a game console and minimises input lag. A smoother picture without tearing during fast-paced scenes is provided byVariable Refresh Rate (VRR). The TV also supports gaming via cloud services.
Connectivity
The connector set includes three HDMI 2.0 inputs. One of the ports supports enhanced features like eARC for transferring high-quality sound to a soundbar, ALLM for automatically switching to game mode, and VRR for frame synchronisation. It also offers two USB ports for playing media from external drives and a CI+ slot for inserting decoding modules for paid television, such as Skylink. Internet connection is handled by the Wi-Fi 6 standard, which ensures a stable and fast connection for streaming 4K content. Wireless accessories, such as headphones or speakers, can be connected via Bluetooth 5.0. Sharing content from mobile phones or tablets to the big screen is made easy by the integrated Chromecast and support for Apple AirPlay, which covers both Android and iOS devices.
Design and Installation
The TV has a thin, black metal frame that is unobtrusive when watching the screen, and it stands on two separate feet. The dimensions with the stand are 1226×737×255mm with a weight of 10.23kg. If you decide to mount it on the wall, it supports VESA standard mounts of 200×100mm. Without the stand, the TV has a depth of just 85.4mm.
Consumption Data
In standard dynamic range (SDR) mode, the TV falls into energy class E with a consumption of 64kWh per 1,000 hours of operation. When watching content with high dynamic range, consumption increases to 94kWh/1000h, which corresponds to energy class G. In standby mode, the power draw is less than 0.5W. The ECO mode provides a further reduction in energy consumption.

It is important to measure the distance between where the TV will be positioned, and where it will be viewed from. We recommend viewing distances are at least double the length of the diagonal screen...
Panel refresh rate is a critical parameter that affects the quality and smoothness of the image displayed on the TV screen. The frequency is expressed in Hertz (Hz) and indicates how many times per second the screen image is refreshed. Higher refresh rates, such as 120 Hz, provide a blur-free and jerk-free picture, which is ideal for watching fast-paced sporting events or playing action video games. A refresh rate of 140 Hz or higher can only be achieved in game mode by connecting an external graphics adapter (connecting to a PC with a GPU or to a console).
Television technology refers to the type of display or screen used in the television. Different technologies offer different advantages and disadvantages in terms of picture quality, performance, cost and other factors. Common technologies include LED (Light Emitting Diodes), LCD (Liquid Crystal Display), OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diodes), QLED (Quantum Dot Light Emitting Diodes), and others. Each technology provides a unique viewing experience and it is important to choose the right technology based on your specific needs and preferences.
Backlighting is a key aspect of display technology that affects the picture quality of the TV. It is the light source used behind the TV screen to illuminate the pixels. Different types of backlights such as Edge LED, Direct LED, Mini LED, FALD and Dual LED provide different benefits in terms of contrast, brightness and image uniformity. Choosing the right type of backlight can have a big impact on the overall TV viewing experience.
The surface of the TV screen is a key factor that affects the visual experience and usability in different lighting conditions. Glossy surfaces offer better contrast and colour saturation, which is ideal for darker rooms. Matte surfaces effectively reduce glare and improve visibility in brighter spaces. Anti-glare surfaces provide the best glare reduction and are suitable for rooms with strong natural or artificial lighting, minimising eye fatigue and enhancing viewing comfort.
The multimedia features of TVs include various technologies and functions that enhance the viewing experience. These can include features such as Ambilight (a lighting effect created by some Philips TVs), gaming features such as VRR (Variable Refresh Rate), AMD FreeSync, Nvidia G-Sync, and more.
Wireless TVs include technologies that allow the TV to communicate with other devices without the need for cables. This can include Wi-Fi to access the internet and stream content, Bluetooth to connect headphones or speakers, and technologies such as AirPlay, DLNA, Chromecast, Miracast to share content between devices.
A tuner is a component of a television set that decodes the signal from an antenna, cable system or satellite reception and converts it into images and sound that can be displayed on the television. There are different types of tuners, including DVB-T, DVB-T2, DVB-S, DVB-S2, DVB-C and others, which vary depending on the type and quality of signal they can receive.
