ACT,
"Acceptance and commitment therapy" is one of the therapeutic directions of the so-called "acceptance and commitment therapy". the third wave of cognitive-behavioural therapy, whose main author is American psychologist Steven C. Hayes.
The popularity of this approach was due to the Australian psychologist Russ Harris, who was able to translate the academic and scholarly description of the original creators into understandable and practically applicable language.
ACT is based on the somewhat unarticulated assumption that psychological suffering is an inevitable part of human experience and life because it is connected to the very process of using language to describe the past, present and future.
ACT further assumes that this psychological suffering is in many cases exacerbated and perpetuated by a perfectly understandable desire to avoid it.
ACT therapy is based on the findings, that you can learn, how to respond to psychological suffering in a way which will not lead to its further deepening and persistence, and that life, of which fear is a part, Sadness, depression, fear or anger, can be full and satisfying. The goal of the ACT approach is to teach the patient or client to live a fulfilled life - one that is consistent with their own values.
The publication answers the question of the means by which ACT achieves this goal.
