Patricia Briggs

American Patricia Briggs (1965) has been writing since 1990. Her first novel, Masques, was published in 1993. The book was not a success and the author's barely launched career almost ended before it began. Fortunately, the second novel, Steal the Dragon (Riallo's Game), sold much better and received favorable reviews from critics. The author's career slowly took off and with each new title, sales and the number of fans increased. The growing popularity of Briggs' books, along with the ability to create the living, compelling characters, inspired the publisher to to ask the author to try her hand at writing a modern urban fantasy. Briggs accepted the challenge and signed a contract for the books, with Mercy Thompson as the protagonist.
