Camilla, a budding journalist, gets into the car of the mysterious Élise, who has emailed her with material for a sensational article: information explaining the recent tragedy in the village of Smrthora. They head straight to the site and on the way Camilla is given two hundred pages of descriptions of events to read…
November 2021. Julien Perrault has just been appointed chief of police in Death Mountain, a remote village with only one road leading to it. Julien believes he will find himself in a wasteland at the end of the world. Instead, he arrives in a village with immaculately cleaned streets, a police station and a modern hospital. The peace and order is supervised by omnipresent cameras.
It turns out that Smrthora was bought more than twenty years ago by M. de Thionville, a businessman eager to create an idyllic and safe environment in which to raise his daughters. Even so, a tragedy occurred ten years ago – in the middle of the night, someone kidnapped de Thionville's youngest daughter and threw her off the top of the Mountain of the Dead, overlooking the village. M. de Thionville suspected who it was, and therefore invited Julien, in addition to his normal duties, to solve the case in secret.
But shortly after Julien's arrival, one villager after another dies mysteriously and bloodily. And in this mysterious place, shrouded in many frightening superstitions and legends of witches who were murdered here in the Middle Ages by being thrown off the Mountain of the Dead, the souls of the old and new dead are literally breathing down Julien and the others' necks, their voices ringing in their ears and seeming more real than reality.
Will journalist Camilla find the raw truth in the Grim Reaper?
