This book by a renowned scholar traces in archival sources the most turbulent period of the creation and the mechanism of the infamous functioning of the State Security after 1948. It describes the "production" of political trials and monster trials, such as. the trials of Milad Horáková and Rudolf Slánský and others, and the causes and consequences of the role this institution played in history. Detailed insight into the StB's background, interrogation methodology, and the work of Soviet advisors reveals the monstrosity of this organization, which eventually began to devour itself.
