Dark Souls

This fantasy story is set in a mythical past, in a world where humans and dwarves live side by side—and together face the snares of their enemies. In a city ruled by a mayor who abuses his power. The human lust for power knows no bounds, and some will not hesitate to exploit the authority entrusted to them to achieve their goals. How far are these people willing to go for a few glittering stones? Will anyone be found to stand up to them and risk their own life in an attempt to defeat them?

Against the backdrop of a plague, the story shows how easily the fates of groups of the city's inhabitants can be controlled in the interest of profit. A large part of the plot takes place underground, where a handful of humans and dwarves are forced to fight dangerous subterranean predators to reach daylight again. In the background of the whole story, a battle unfolds between good, represented by the lord of balance, and evil, represented by dragons.

In his work, the author strives to contribute to his beloved fantasy literature and RPG games. He tries to grasp this genre in his own way and become a part of it. He confesses his great admiration for the computer game Dark Souls and makes no secret of the fact that it inspired him to write this book. He tells a harsh and unembellished tale of a plague-stricken city and its inhabitants, who must each cope with this insane situation in their own way. He tells of the human desire for life and freedom, and the sacrifices that humans and dwarves are willing to make for the survival of themselves and their loved ones. The story is set against a backdrop of omnipresent evil, blood, and death, but also of admirable heroism and fateful love. Alongside fast-paced action sequences, the author also captures the feelings of people driven into extreme life situations, where they are often forced to contemplate life and death itself.

Due to its raw storytelling style, the story is not intended for young readers.

text excerpt.

. Suddenly, the ranks of the attackers began to part. “I will never be afraid of you,” shouted Karoton as he pushed through the crowd into the courtyard. The warriors definitively stopped fighting and began to retreat to make way for the brothers' duel.

Both men gripped their swords tightly. They knew everything was at stake. When the fight was over, one of them would no longer be among the living. After a moment of observing each other, they locked together like two stags fighting over a single female. At first, sparks flew through the air as their weapons clashed. Later, when the brothers grew tired and began to make mistakes in the duel, dark red blood began to spray around them. The soldiers lowered their weapons, understanding that their fighting for the day was over. One of the men had to fall, and all the survivors would serve the other. The match lasted a long time and was very evenly matched. But everything must come to an end, and so this contest finally reached its conclusion.
