Deadpool - DVD
Before he became Deadpool, he was Wade Wilson (Ryan Reynolds), a former Special Forces operative. After being diagnosed with terminal cancer, he underwent an experimental treatment as part of the Weapon X programme, which is well-known and popular, especially among the X-Men mutants.
This not only cured Wade's cancer and kept him alive, but also gave him the bonus ability of rapid self-healing. Unfortunately, however – unlike Wolverine, who remained quite sexy after a similar treatment – this experiment left him permanently disfigured. In his own words, he looks like “an avocado had sex with an older, more disgusting avocado”. This is also why he adopted the costumed alter ego of Deadpool with relatively little resistance.
