War and confusion have engulfed the land of the exiles. The cunning Queen Rhin has conquered the entire west, and High King Nathair has acquired the Cauldron, the most powerful of the Seven Treasures. Behind Nathair stands the scheming Calidus and an army of Kadoshim, the dreaded demons of the Underworld. Their goal is to bring Asroth, at the head of the host of the fallen, to the world of the flesh, but to do so they need to have the Seven Treasures together. Elsewhere, the flame of resistance smolders - Queen Edana finds allies in the wetlands of Ardan. Maquin is on the run in Tenebral, with Lykos and his pirates hot on his heels. In Tenebral, he witnesses the birth of an uprising in Nathair's own kingdom.
Corban was swept up in the tide of war. He suffered, he lost loved ones, he just wanted to find safety from the approaching darkness. But he doesn't want to run anymore. He had already seen the face of evil and decided to fight against it. But the question is how. With his retinue gathered around him, he begins a journey that will take him to Drassil, a mythical fortress deep in the heart of the Forest of Forn. For in Drassil is the Spear of Skald, one of the Treasures, and there also, according to the prophecy, the Bright Star will stand against the Black Sun.

A series that promises the same level of complexity and depth as Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series or George R. R. Martin.

Gwynne doesn't take his foot off the gas, quite the opposite. Its dark story draws on the most classic fantasy elements and pays homage to authors such as Joe Abercrombie, David Gemmell and G. R. R. Martin, whether it's the brutality of the world or the vividness of the narrative.
