Robin Pemberton has found the legendary Alister's Tower, but at what cost? She is now at the mercy of the grumpy mage Ainar. What's more, war between the Empire and Caledon is imminent, and Ainar wants Robin to stop his brother, who could destroy the entire continent. Kai Austern is being held captive by this very brother. As both Robin and Kai fight to save themselves and their country, they gradually uncover the truth about what is happening in the Old World—and their loyalty to the Empire begins to waver. Whose side will they choose? And will they ever see each other again?
