Dr. Arthur Genoa, a world-renowned psychologist who earned his B. A. and M. S. W. D. at the University of California, Los Angeles, and a Ph. D. D. in psychology at Claremont Graduate School, has been conducting groundbreaking research in the field of psychotherapy for more than thirty years. With his wife, France, he founded the Primal Therapy Institute in Santa Monica and has written 11 books, including the international best-seller The Primal Scream. He is considered the father of "primary therapy", a method of coping with the earliest, unconscious traumas that covertly affect the lives of most of us. Lately, so many books on raising children are coming out that parents who read them can easily get the feeling that raising a healthy child is almost impossible. There is so much to know and so much that can go wrong. I would therefore like to emphasize that the purpose of this book is not to further complicate the already difficult situation of parents, but to shed light on which events of the prenatal period of child development and birth can affect the child. And besides, my main intention is to help parents to give their children the best possible conditions for a healthy life. I hope so, that I can at least shed some light, how we become that, who we are, and how early experiences shape our personalities, interests and convictions - and so do compulsions, obsessions and symptoms. As our research continues, it is becoming clearer and clearer what mistakes we are making with children. However, it would be another mistake to dwell on the past and feelings of guilt. We need to take advantage of the latest knowledge and look to the future with a determination not to repeat these mistakes. - A. Genoa
