It was one of the biggest shocks of our popular music at that time, after fourteen continuous victories of Karel Gott in the Golden Nightingale poll he was blown away by the most prestigious music award of Czechoslovakia by a shy, glasses-wearing outsider, singer Miro Žbirka from Bratislava. It was 1982, Meky was experiencing his own Beatlemania, writing hits that live on to this day. Outside of the spotlight, he has had his fair share of pain, with a long road full of twists and turns ahead of him to filming at the renowned Abbey Road studios. What happened to Meky Zbirka from the moment he first picked up a guitar to the moment he revealed his life to filmmakers? He was a long-haired rocker and a British elegiac, before he came of age, he played as a hired musician abroad, experienced the loss of a brother, fired from the band, as well as the crowds of female fans, fame and musical triumphs, has had a retirement and a big comeback. How did he cope with the crash of a loved one and the seductions of the all-powerful Communist Party during the socialist era? The film Meky tells the story of his total devotion to music, of his faith in his own path, even though it often led him down a different path than everyone recommended. About how to gracefully overcome the great social revolutions and life's twists and turns. The director, Šimon Šafránek, has created a dynamic portrait of the music legend using Žbirka's open confession, contemporary footage and extensive archival material.
