A story of one historical generation – ageing parents, teenagers coming of age, and young children. The plot is set at the end of the 1960s, from autumn '67 to summer '68, with a short epilogue extending into the seventies. The Prague residential area of Hanspaulka, a gentle poetic feel, and humorous exaggeration characterise this mosaic narrative of the parallel lives of three generations of men and women during a unique period in our history in 1968.
In one of the villas in Košíře at the end of the 60s live two families – the four-member family of Major Šebek and the three-member family of the former resistance fighter and staunch oppositionist, Kraus. However, they are only different on the surface. Both suffer under a loud patriarchy, both rely on the kindness and understanding of the mothers, and both face the difficult period of their adolescent children's puberty. Michal Šebek is in love with his beautiful neighbour Jindřiška Krausová, who, however, quite clearly prefers the class heart-throb, Elien. The strictly intimate story of the two families is also affected by Mrs Krausová's sister, the teacher Eva, who is trying to find a new father for her son Péťa. The generational disputes and family quarrels are, however, fatefully marked by politics in August 1968.
A superb screenplay by Petr Jarchovský, excellent casting and direction guarantee a quality film experience.
