In a remote corner of the Scottish Highlands, the body of Elaine Buxton has been burnt. The only things the police have to identify the missing lawyer by are a tooth and a scrap of bloody cloth. Meanwhile, in a secret room somewhere in Edinburgh, the real Elaine Buxton screams in terror into the darkness. Inspector Luc Callanach has left a promising career at Interpol to start from scratch. Will he prove himself to his new colleagues and in the face of a murderer who is carefully covering all their tracks? A sophisticated plot that will grip you from the very first page, a likeable pair of investigators, comprising not only the 'handsome Luc' but also the headstrong and friendly Ava Turner, and a truly despicable criminal – these are the ingredients that make this a book every fan of the detective genre will savour.
