Robur the Conqueror

Robur the Conqueror
Robur the Conqueror is a novel in the Strange Journeys series. The book was also published in Czech under the title Airships Around the World. In 1904, Jules Verne wrote a sequel to the Robur stories under the title The Master of the World. The story begins with the mysterious engineer Robur forcing his way into a meeting of the Philadelphia Aviation Weldon Club. While the club members are having a heated discussion about how to build a steerable airship, Robur comes up with the claim that he has built a heavier-than-air hovercraft that is superior to an airship in every way.
Shortly thereafter, Robur abducts two members of the club, its president "Uncle" Prudent and its recorder Phil Evans, aboard his airship Albatross. The aim of the kidnapping is Robur's attempt to prove to the club members the superiority of his hovercraft, so he plans to take it on an adventurous round-the-world journey over three weeks...
