The future is dark. Doomsday wiped out half of humanity in the 1990s, and survivors have been trying in vain to resist the Skynet computer system ever since. The strongest resistance movement has formed around John Connor (Jason Clarke), who poses the greatest threat to Skynet. The problem is to be solved by the Terminator, a killing machine with human features (Arnold Schwarzenegger), who is sent into the past by Skynet to kill Connor's mother Sarah (Emilia Clarke) before she can conceive her son.
But even the human rebels have access to the time machine, and they send soldier Kyle Reese (Jai Courtney) to protect Sarah from the Terminator for a change.
However, the return to 1984 marks a major turning point. Kyle Reese discovers that Sara is not a defenseless and frightened waitress, but a badass who no Terminator can scare, especially since one such machine has been her companion and protector for a few years now. But this apparent advantage may be useless, because Skynet has its "fingers" everywhere and definitely wants to prevent this disparate trio from painting a rosy future for humanity.
