Woken after a hundred years in hibernation, Captain John “Black Jack” Geary has led the Alliance fleet home through Syndic Worlds space. At every turn, he has thwarted the plans of his enemies, whether they be Syndics or from within his own fleet. The Heradao star system is home to a labour camp where Alliance prisoners of war are being held. It is also where most of the remaining Syndic ships have gathered. Determined not to leave any Alliance member behind, Black Jack Geary orders his fleet to strike fast and hard, rescuing the prisoners with minimal loss of life. The attack is a success, but the fleet doesn't get to enjoy its victory for long. Geary discovers that the Syndics are planning to trap his ships with their powerful reserve fleet, aiming to destroy the Alliance ships once and for all. However, Geary has no idea where the enemy reserve fleet is located. And as he orders the fleet to jump from one star system to the next, hoping to somehow evade the inevitable confrontation, saboteurs within the fleet prepare to strike again…
