Using the example of the "labour service" as a globally widespread means of dealing with youth unemployment during economic crises, the book provides new insights into the ideological environment and nationalist practice of the German minority in interwar Czechoslovakia. It enables a better understanding of the behaviour and stereotypes of the part of the German minority that defined itself nationally and that was growing in number in the 1930s. The thesis presents, on the basis of an analysis of the social phenomenon, as the labour service is also called, the gradual accreditation and implementation of the manifestations of authoritarian thinking based on domestic sources adapted to the forms of imperial national socialism in urban and rural conditions at the end of the Republic's existence. It offers new insights into the development of the German minority in the context of developments in Germany, which was coming under increasing pressure from National Socialism in the period under review. The publication is mainly based on research of primary sources of various nature and is guided by the intention to offer the wider professional and lay public a view of a historical phenomenon that has been neglected in Czech historiography so far, which contributed to the worsening national situation in interwar Czechoslovakia and co-created the militant attitudes of part of its German population.
