My new neighbour is a firefighter – and an incredibly sexy single dad – but I swear I didn't set off the smoke detector on purpose. (And I really wanted the ground to swallow me whole when he rushed to my rescue and found me completely naked.)

Nothing happened, of course it didn't – because I, Winnie MacAllister, a love addict with a perpetually broken heart, have sworn off men for a whole year. Even protective men with chiselled jaws, huge biceps, and dark brown eyes that make my heart race. Even ex-SEALs with broad chests and strong arms that give me goosebumps. Even gorgeous, grumpy blokes who have their hands full raising two adorable little girls and claim they don't believe in love.

I was determined to keep my promise, until Dex kissed me one night and made me throw all my inhibitions away. (And my underwear, too.)

He says he’s not the tender type, and he’s right. He says I should take the dream job I’ve been offered in another state, and he’s right. He says he’s too old for me and can’t be the man I deserve.
