David Zábranský's prose about politics in a post-communist country without a tradition of statehood and democracy
David Zábranský's latest prose tells a story about politics in a post-communist country without a tradition of statehood and democracy, a story about the transfer of power in a state so small that members of the elite basically know each other. What kind of ethos can a republic have whose prime minister looks like an egg thief in a suit and claims to be the mistress of an Italian mafioso as his adviser?
Inspired by the murder of the young Slovak journalist Ján Kuciak, the book chronicles the events that may have preceded the crime, as well as the subsequent shock and change in the social mood of the country. The aim was not to offer a chronicle of recent events in Slovakia, but to create a general account of today's politics and society based on the conflict of three generations. An essential part of the narrative is an attempt to answer the questions of what 1989 meant for the region of Central and Eastern Europe and what this region means for the contemporary world.
