A Year in Provence, a book by British columnist and author Peter Mayle, takes us month by month through the year of a newlywed homeowner in Provence. With English humour at its most affectionate, the author introduces us to the joys and pitfalls of life as a foreigner who has decided to realise his dream of living in a place he has only known as a tourist.
For immigrants, everything is new, more colourful, more fragrant, and it's not just about great wine and cuisine. The occasional difficulties with the authorities or house renovation are balanced many times over by beautiful nature, culinary experiences, learning about unusual customs, sports and making new friends.
The book became an international bestseller, served as the basis for a TV series, and won the prestigious 1989 British Book Awards for Best Travel Book and numerous other awards.
