Folk songs are not just folklore, but also a precious musical treasure with which Slovakia can present itself to the world.
This is also true of Banda's third studio album, Telegrafy. The album was created gradually over four years of touring, and the musicians spent a long two years recording it in Trnava. They were inspired not only by traditional folk music but also by other musical genres, and they listened to hundreds of folk songs from old archive recordings.
On the long-awaited album Telegrafy, the performers are Samo Smetana (vocals, violin, mandolin), Eva Brunovská (vocals, keyboards), Alžběta Lukáčová (vocals, dulcimer), Ivan Hanula (vocals, viola), Peter Obuch (vocals, double bass) and Igor Ajdži Sabo (vocals, drums). Banda's new opus features twelve original arrangements of little-known folk songs. They are mainly Slovak, but also Rusyn and Romani songs.
The compositions are based on a deep knowledge of Slovak musical traditions. It is new music, fresh and communicative.
