Behind Us Walked the Afterlife

Prepare to die. His kingdom is coming.

Sixteen-year-old trans boy Benji is on the run from the cult that raised him—a fundamentalist sect that unleashed Armageddon and decimated the world's population. He's desperately searching for a place where the cult can't get to him, but more importantly, where they can't get to the bioweapon they infected him with.

But when monsters born from the destruction corner him, Benji is rescued by a group of teenagers from the local Acheson LGBTQ+ Centre, affectionately known as the ALC. Nick, the ALC's leader, is a handsome, autistic sharpshooter, and he knows Benji's darkest secret: that thanks to the cult's bioweapon, Benji is mutating into a monster so deadly it could wipe humanity off the face of the Earth for good.

Nevertheless, Nick offers Benji a safe haven among his motley crew of queer teenagers, as long as Benji keeps the monster under control and uses its power to defend the ALC. Benji agrees to Nick's terms, longing to belong somewhere... until he discovers that the mysterious ALC leader has ulterior motives and quite a few secrets of his own.

Hell Followed with Us is a ferocious, queer debut novel about embracing the monster within and turning its power against the oppressors. A perfect choice for fans of Gideon the Ninth and Annihilation.
