Vladimír Šlechta
Vladimír Šlechta was born on 5.8.1960 in Liberec, but he lived most of his life in the south of Bohemia in České Budějovice. In 1984, he graduated from the Faculty of Civil Engineering of the Czech Technical University, majoring in water construction, and then was employed in the design departments of various water management institutions and also for three years as a clerk in the fire brigade. Since the middle of 1999 he has been independently engaged in the field of designing water management facilities. He also taught for some time externally at a building industry school.
Vladimír Šlechta made his debut in 1993 in the magazine Ikarie with the short story Legendary Weapon. His first two novels were published in 1999: The Bersekr Project and the Echo Blade. By 2007, his books had sold around 15,000 copies, making him one of the best-selling Czech authors of fantasy and science fiction. He is a two-time winner of the Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror Award for Best Published Short Story. He is currently the author of nine books (in addition to about forty short stories published in magazines or various anthologies), in which he skillfully combines elements of adventure science fiction and fantasy. Three of them belong to the cycle, set in the post-catastrophic environment of Europe (Project Berserkr, Blade of Echoes and Cyborg's name), others fall into the fantasy cycle Blood Borderlands (Blood Borderlands, Crazy forest, Orcigard, Best day ever, Garden of Sirens and Fences of Bones), which some classify as "backwoods fantasy".
