The 2018 box set Loving The Alien summed up Bowie's creative period from 1983-88. The individual components of the box are now available separately. The 1987 album Never Let Me Down was re-produced for the new release by Mario McNulty with the help of Bowie's collaborators (guitarists Reeves Gabrels and David Torn, drummer Sterling Cambell and bassist Tim Lefebvre) and guest Laurie Anderson (Makin' My Love). On the album, after several experiments with funk, disco and midstream, Bowie decided (for the first and not the last time) to return to his rock roots. He composed most of the 1987 album in Switzerland, and even as he was writing it, he had an idea for a theatrical and spectacular tour, which he embarked on in the autumn of that year with the Glass Spider Tour. It became the most expensive and elaborate tour of his career and was also made into a concert documentary and a live double album, released under the title Glass Spider.
One of the greatest personalities of world music, a renowned musical chameleon and a pioneer of several musical movements. During his lifetime, this British artist released twenty-five albums, many of which have become part of the golden fund of popular music and influenced several generations of musicians from several musical genres. David Bowie released his last album, Black Star, on 8 January 2016, on his sixty-ninth birthday and just two days before his death.
