If the urban fantasy subgenre has a queen at the moment, it is none other than American Patricia Briggs. Although at the beginning of her career she was a writer searching in the realm of classic fantasy, it was the stories of coyote skin-woman Mercedes Thompson that brought her unprecedented popularity.
It is the character of a tattooed mechanic with supernatural abilities, who often stands on the very dangerous border between the world of humans and mythical creatures, that testifies to the writer's congeniality. The setting in which Mercy's adventures take place has been similarly famously portrayed in Patricia Briggs' imagination.
Welcome to the Tri-Cities, Tri-Cities, in which people live side by side, whose only supernatural ability is that they manage to get up for work every morning, and then the so-called. Fae - vampires, gnomes or werewolves. The coexistence of different races - and we know this from our reality - does not always have ironed buds: on the contrary, it is the cornerstone around which most of the problems Mercy gets involved in with a tenacity all her own. A burnt future.
Thanks to the care of the publishing house FANTOM Print, which has been bringing the series to Czech and Slovak readers since 2009 - including the fancy covers by Daniel Dos Santos - the seventh volume, entitled Burnt by Frost, is now on the market. Mercy is facing perhaps the most difficult task she could ever undertake. The entire werewolf pack is kidnapped, including her mate and alpha male of the clan, Adam Hauptman. Not only are their lives at stake, but also the future of the werewolf race and perhaps all the Fae that live in the Tri-Cities. And Mercedes Thompson will have to pull out all the stops to handle it all without anyone getting hurt.

Patricia Briggs' first novel, Masques, was published in 1993. The book was not a success and the author's career almost ended before it began. The second novel, Riallo's Game (1995), fortunately sold much better and the writing career slowly took off. The growing popularity of the author's books, along with her ability to create vivid, compelling characters, inspired a publisher to ask her to try her hand at writing modern urban fantasy. Briggs accepted the challenge and signed a contract for a series of novels, with Mercy Thompson as the protagonist. Smoke Demon (2020) is the latest installment in the successful franchise and universe, the twelfth in the series. The first book in the Mercy Thompson series (Moon Song) made the USA Today bestseller list. The second volume, Blood Ties, made the New York Times bestseller list for a change. The Iron Kiss, the third book, even took the first place in this prestigious ranking. The success has been so enormous that further episodes of this still unfinished series are in the making. The author has also come up with a companion series, Alfa & Omega, also published by Fantom Print along with the main Mercedes Thompson series.
