After an investigation that threatened to expose corruption within South Africa's circles of power, Benny Griessel and Vaughn Cupido have been demoted and dismissed from the elite Hawks police unit. While awaiting redeployment, Griessel receives a disturbing anonymous letter that reads: “I can only trust you and Captain Cupido. There is a viper in our midst. Beware of phone calls.” Benny and Vaughn soon launch a search for the missing Callie de Bruin, a young university student and brilliant programmer.
