The place you want to read. Borders ploughed between fields and people. A pub, a small shop, slaughterhouses. Infidelity and one botched funeral. Grandma and Grandpa are as close as two trees. A life connected to the land, animals and farming. All this is Dědina, the story of a contemporary village told through the eyes of its inhabitants. Josef worries in vain about why his son Zbyňa refuses to take over the farm when there is so much to repair in the fields destroyed in the cooperative. Vavirci is counting where the next crown might come from, the good-hearted saleswoman Maruna is trying to be good to everyone and the butcher Lada is getting under someone else's skirt. And little Petruna? She won't sit still for a while. The natural physical proximity of the heroes, their work together, their desire for a better livelihood, and even their calculating nature are the source of eternal strife and bonding, as well as a futile attempt to heal past wounds. A brisk narrative that doesn't judge anyone and what is important - it doesn't bore.
