In the shadow of the hive
A Gothic Novel Full of Mystery and Ancient Sins
In the Shadow of the Hive is a Gothic novel set in a family villa in the mountains during the First Republic. A young woman who gets a job here as a governess faces much bigger challenges than just raising children. In addition to her charge, she must also find a way to connect with the other inhabitants of the house, which is well hidden from prying eyes and conceals many secrets within its quiet corridors. Ancient sins accumulate in its corners, and many-legged creatures flee from the light. It takes great courage to look behind the masks of others. And even greater courage to look behind your own.
Eva Wolfenthal
Eva Wolfenthal was born in Žilina and studied history, which she now professionally pursues as an archivist. Fiction—especially fantasy and horror—is her hobby, a passion recklessly encouraged by the judges of the 2020 Fantázia Award when they selected her short story "The Saint" for the print anthology and placed it in the Béla Award rankings. This ultimately led to the decision to offer In the Shadow of the Hive, a Gothic novel written in Czech, for publication.
