The unique audiobook Jan Werich Behind the Curtain presents a plastic portrait of Jan Werich and his private life
The audiobook Jan Werich Behind the Curtain traces his life from birth to death and reveals Werich's little-known faces - the worldly dandy, the brilliant comedian, the advocate of proletarians, the crony of famous artists and unknown fishermen, the besieged patient and the lonely Master. It also talks about Werich's vices. That he was sometimes unjust, domineering and self-centered. He was overwhelmed with frustration and anger when he turned from a popular acting star into an uncomfortable personality who was sidelined by the former regime. He was plagued by health problems. Not only did he bring them on himself, but he aggravated them by his fondness for good food, drink and smoking.
Twelve comprehensive interviews by Jiří Janoušek, in which Jan Werich looked back on his life shortly before his death, supplemented by contemporary testimonies and comments of people, who were close to him, especially Jiří Voskovec, Miroslav Horníček and Miloš Kopecký, but also doctors, who were nursing him or his fellow Marines. The book Jan Werich Behind the Curtain presents a plastic portrait of Jan Werich and his private life, which was not exactly happy and remained hidden behind the legend of the wise clown.
