Lady of Chachtice

A historical story about the Hungarian Countess Elizabeth Báthory.

The story of Elizabeth Báthory in the novel The Lady of the Boat by Jož Nižnánský takes place at the turn of the 16th and 17th centuries and draws on real events. The plot is packed not only with interesting and contemporary facts, but is above all a thrilling, almost detective-like read. The driving force of the plot is the endless, morbid desire of the Czech lady to be young and beautiful at all costs. This desire has been the cause of the destruction of the lives of many innocent young girls.

The novel truthfully depicts the sad times when the life of a serf had no value. And as it happens, the cruel lady of Čachtice was helped by human creatures like Fick, who were blindly obeying her out of fear. The listener will experience selfless love, hatred, betrayal, disappointment and envy alongside a thrilling adventure.
